Summary

For new customers of Frontier, figuring out to how install everything on your own can be difficult, especially if you want to start using your services right away. This article can be used as a guide for those who need some extra help and would like the instructions to be laid out in an easy-to-read format.

Self-Installing Your Frontier FiberOptic Internet Service

As long as you have already been approved for a self-installation, received your equipment in the mail and have activated your service, you should be all ready to begin the self-installation process. If you already placed your order but have not yet received your equipment, Frontier allows you to track your shipment and get your order status.

Setting up your Frontier FiberOptic Internet router

The first step is to set up your Wi-Fi router, whether you are installing just internet or internet and TV as well. Make sure to place the router near the middle of your home for a consistently good connection. With your equipment, you may or may not have received a MoCA adapter.

Steps to setting up your Frontier FiberOptic Internet

A. If you did receive a MoCA adapter, follow these steps:

  1. Using a coax cable, connect the coax wall jack to the splitter.
  2. Using two more coax cables, connect one of them from a port on the splitter to the back of the MoCA adapter labeled ‘ONT Broadband’, and the other one from a remaining port on the splitter to the back of the router labeled ‘Cable Line’.
  3. Using the Ethernet cable, connect one end to the RED port on the MoCA adapter labeled ‘RG Broadband’ to the RED port on the router labeled ‘ONT Broadband’.
  4. Finally, using the USB power cord, connect one end to the port on the MoCA adapter labeled ‘Power’, and the other end to the port on the router labeled ‘USB’.

B. If you did not receive a MoCA adapter, follow these steps:

  1. Using the white Ethernet cable, connect one end to the RED ethernet port labeled ‘ONT’ on the router, and the other end to the Ethernet wall jack.
  2. If you are also adding TV, use a coax cable to connect the coax wall jack to the port on the back of the router labeled ‘Cable Line’.

Once you’ve completed these steps, connect one end of the power cord into the port on the router labeled ‘Power’ and the other end into the wall outlet. Then, turn the router on by pressing the ‘ON’ button. When you have successfully connected the router to the internet, the globe light on the front of the router will flash and turn to a solid blue color. Be patient as this part may take up to several minutes.

Setting up your Frontier TV

It is important that you connect your internet prior to this step because your router must be connected in order to activate your TV service.
Note: If you have a DVR, it must be installed and activated prior to installing your other TV boxes.

A1. If you did connect your internet using the MoCA adapter from the previous step:

  1. Using a coax cable, connect the main DVR/STB to the center port on the splitter.

B1. If you did not connect your internet using the MoCA adapter from the previous step:

  1. Using a coax cable, connect the main DVR/STB to the coax outlet. At this time, you should also connect all your other STBs to their coax outlets as well.

2. Now, the next step is to connect the DVR/STB to the back of the TV using either:

  • an HDMI
  • Component cables
  • RCA cables

3. After you have connected the DVR/STB to the TV, plug the power cord into the wall outlet from the DVR/STB.

4. The last and final step is to press the STB power button on the remote control. Then, turn on the TV and follow the prompts on the screen to activate. Note: A firmware will be downloaded to your device which may take up to 30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What if the internet light on the router does not become a solid blue color?
