Summary

Spectrum Mobile is available to Spectrum Internet customers as a cost-effective option for mobile phone service. Each of their plans includes talk, text and data, and you can select the plan that has the right amount of data for you. Additionally, having Spectrum Mobile means that you can enjoy the perks of bundling your services through a single provider. This is a helpful deal for customers who already have (or are interested in) Spectrum Internet.

What Is Spectrum Mobile?

Spectrum Mobile is a mobile phone plan offered by Spectrum.

On this plan, customers can enjoy talk, text, data and access to out-of-home WiFi hotspots across the country!

This service also supports plan flexibility by allowing you to select the plan that includes the data you think you’ll need.

You can even switch plans as your mobile needs change! Best of all, Spectrum Mobile Unlimited plans get you 5G service access at no additional cost as long as you have a 5G-compatible device.

What Plans Does Spectrum Mobile Offer?

Spectrum Mobile offers three plans: Unlimited, Unlimited Plus, and By the Gig.

Spectrum touts the fact that you can mix and match your lines to give each user the amount of data they actually need. You can even use the My Spectrum app to monitor data usage on your lines, add data or switch your plan up to the next level if it looks like you’re going to exceed your data allowance.

Since you can have up to 10 lines on your plan, having this app can be useful for monitoring where your data is going on your account.

Spectrum Mobile Plans

Spectrum Mobile By the Gig plan

The Spectrum Mobile By the Gig plan helps you pare down your mobile costs by allowing you to purchase only what you need. After starting with 1 GB for $20 per month per line, you can purchase more data at $5 per GB.

After any one of the lines on your plan uses up their GB of data, an additional GB of data is added to the account. From that point, all lines that have exceeded their original GB for the month share the additional data being added to the plan.

This data can only be shared by lines on the same account and on the By the Gig plan. If it looks like those extra GB are stacking up too quickly, you can switch to an Unlimited plan at any time through the My Spectrum app.

Spectrum Mobile By the Gig is currently $20 per month and $5 for each additional GB added to your plan.

One last aspect of this plan to note is that 5G devices are only supported by Spectrum’s Unlimited plans. Customers with 5G devices will therefore not be able to sign up for a By the Gig plan.

Spectrum Mobile Unlimited

With a Spectrum Mobile Unlimited plan, you can talk, text, browse, game, watch and listen with 30 GB of premium data.

Talk, text and data are all unlimited on this plan. You also have the ability to use your phone as a mobile hotspot for up to 5GB of sharing network access with other devices. A customer on this plan would be a mobile user who enjoys plenty of browsing, gaming, listening and watching away from home. This plan is currently priced at $30 per line per month.

Currently, customers that sign up for Spectrum Internet Premier can get a Mobile Unlimited line included with Internet. Call today to ask how.

Spectrum Mobile Unlimited Plus

With the Spectrum Mobile Unlimited Plus plan, you get all the benefits of Unlimited, plus some more. You can talk, text, browse, game, watch and listen with 50 GB of premium data, and you also get HD-quality video streaming and free roaming in Canada and Mexico.

Like Unlimited, talk, text and data are unlimited with this plan. Unlimited Plus is currently $40 per month per line.

No matter which Spectrum Mobile plan you choose, you get to have access to Spectrum WiFi hotspots which you can join to conserve your data on the go as needed.

If you want to know where those are, here’s a link to a Spectrum WiFi hotspot locator.

How Do Spectrum Mobile Plans Compare to Other Carriers?

On the whole, Spectrum Mobile is a respectable choice compared to other top carriers. Its price point and plan inclusion make it a service worth looking into if you need mobile service. In this section, you’ll find a straightforward comparison between the comparable plans of Spectrum Mobile and its competitors.

One key concept that makes the difference between mobile data plans (including these plans) is the provision of premium data. Premium data indicates data that is prioritized before other data usage on the network.

Prioritized data will be processed sooner than deprioritized data, which means that having premium data will help your phone more quickly load web pages, videos, music and more.

Once you run out of premium data on your unlimited plan, you can still access data—just much slower data. In other words: non-premium data needs are shuffled behind premium data requests. Another term for this deprioritization is sometimes “data throttling.”

All prices listed in this section are for single lines, which affects the per-line pricing for most of the top carriers listed below. And remember, Spectrum Internet customers have the opportunity to get one free Spectrum Mobile Unlimited line as part of the Spectrum One deal.

Plan Pricing for Multiple Lines

If you have a business or family to set up with cellular service, then Spectrum Mobile has you covered. Although the price no longer changes as you add lines to your plan, Spectrum Mobile’s multi-line pricing is still competitively priced when compared to other big brands in the mobile service industry. You’ll find those comparisons in the chart below. Additionally, the max activation fee for Spectrum Mobile lines is noticeably cheaper than those of many other providers in the field.

What Are the Benefits of Spectrum Mobile?

As we mentioned before, Spectrum Mobile is a competent competitor in the mobile service space! You can find a brief list of the benefits for Spectrum Mobile below.

Low Monthly Price
As you can see in the chart above, the price per line is pretty sweet, especially if you’ve already got Spectrum Internet anyway.

Bundling
When you choose a Spectrum Mobile subscription, you automatically receive some of the benefits of bundling. One of those benefits includes being able to package multiple services from a single provider into one monthly bill. We’re always happy to see streamlined monthly bills!

Spectrum Mobile Benefits

WiFi Hotspots
Having access to Spectrum WiFi hotspots across the country can be an excellent convenience if you have Spectrum Mobile, especially if you’ve chosen a By the Gig plan. This can help you save your data while helping you access the web! Use the hotspot locator linked above. When you arrive at a hotspot location, just select “Spectrum WiFi” and then open your browser to log in using your Spectrum username and password.

International Communication
Spectrum Mobile plans can offer customers the freedom to text and talk internationally. All Spectrum Mobile plans include FREE texting to any of 200 countries from within the United States and up to 2,000 minutes of calling to Canada or Mexico. The Unlimited Plus plans includes free roaming in Canada and Mexico.

If you are traveling outside of the U.S., Spectrum Mobile does have international plans available.

Easy Plan Maintenance
Adding extra Gigs can be costly if you haven’t estimated appropriately. Use the My Spectrum mobile app to monitor your usage and upgrade by the month as you need to.

What Are the Disadvantages of Spectrum Mobile?

Although Spectrum Mobile has some pretty neat perks, all mobile carriers have some sort of disadvantage. This section includes a short review of potential drawbacks to Spectrum Mobile.

Plan Prerequisites
You must have Spectrum Internet in order to join Spectrum Mobile. Although such a requirement may restrict certain users from enjoying Spectrum Mobile, this may only be a partial disadvantage. If you already have Spectrum Internet, you’re free to get started! If not, then this may be a good reason to reconsider subscribing if you can.

Plan Switching Restrictions
With the Spectrum Mobile app, it’s very easy to switch from By the Gig to an Unlimited plan even if you’re making the switch mid-month. If you wanted to switch to a lower plan, however, the switch would have to be delayed until the end of the monthly billing cycle.

For example, if it’s near the end of the billing cycle on your Unlimited plan but you see on the app that you have surprisingly only used a couple GB, you’ll have to wait until next month to switch to a By the Gig plan and price.

Pros
  • Affordable price per line
  • Unlimited talk and text on each line
  • Streamlined monthly billing
  • Save data with WiFi hotspots
  • High premium data allowance
  • Numerous bundling options available
  • Text and Talk internationally
  • Easily plan monitoring and switching with My Spectrum app
Cons
  • Must have Spectrum Internet to sign up
  • Cannot switch to a lower plan mid-month
